The Latest On CERAP

Posted by Jordan Tapia | Aug 12, 2021

According to CHIPS recent update the New York Assembly held a hearing today at 10 a.m. to once again discuss the issues with the CERAP program. Although some funds have been released, the process has been slow and these hearings are expected to put extra pressure on the state government to get funds distributed faster. According to a recent CHIP survey, ERAP applications are only totaling up to $390 million and the estimated amount for rent arrears is estimated to be up to $800 million. This is probably due to the fact that the application process has been complicated and frustrating to both tenants and landlords. Due to these slow distributions of CERAP money some elected officials are calling for an extension of New York's residential and commercial eviction moratorium.
