According to the Connecticut Center for Fair Housing, the state sees a record number of evictions in 2022, reporting over 21,000.
Romanow, a staff attorney at the Connecticut Fair Housing Center, said tenant rights groups in the state will push for caps on rent, saying that are needed to give tenants a sense of stability that they can pay their rent and keep where they live.
Rising rents are largely due to inflation, yet many landlords take advantage of the situation by raising their rent far more than the rising costs of ownership.
As we can see, it is not only New York that is dealing with rising evictions, states like Connecticut present the same situation, so we must be well informed about our rights as tenants and as landlords.
